Mokelumne Wilderness
July 1, 2013

Getting There

Round Top Lake can be reached via the Woods Lake Trailhead. Woods lake is located on Highway 88 just west of Carson Pass. This is a VERY popular spot, so expect crowds.

The Hike

The hike to Round Top Lake is a short (2.45 mi) but relentlessly uphill hike. There isn't much shade on the trail to Round Top Lake so you will be exposed. There is a lot of people on the trail to Round Top Lake on the weekends.

The Fishing

REPORT - August 21, 2015

There is a chance that you may find fish planted again in this lake as it has passed it's environmental impact report and has been approved for stocking. I guess we will have to see what turns up over the next couple of years!

REPORT - July 1, 2013

We do not think there are any fish left in Round Top Lake. Historically, Rainbows, Goldens, and Cutthroats have been planted in Round Top Lake. But nowadays, there are no signs of fish life here. Bummer!
