Getting There
The Blue Lakes can be reached by taking Blue Lakes Road off of
Highway 88 near Carson Pass. Follow this road for 20 miles and make a
right at the sign directing you to Blue Lakes. There are two Blue Lakes,
Upper Blue Lake and Lower BLue Lake. We chose to fish the Lower
Blue Lake. Follow the narrow road past the campgrounds and search for good spots to park and get out.
The Hike
These roadside waters at Lower BLue Lake and Upper Blue Lake do not require hiking. There may be a hike in your
future if you want to venture onto the other side(s) of the Blue Lakes. The Blue Lakes
in Alpine County offer an excellent place to launch your canoe or float tube.
The Fishing
We wanted to do some relaxing fishing on a cool October morning at The Blue Lakes. So we used various
colors of powerbait and perched along the east shore working each area for 15 minutes or so. Eventually we worked our
way up to the north shore of Lower Blue Lake without getting any action. They must have been interested in
something else. We accepted our defeat and headed home.
